"Parent as Tutor" is a distance training course offered by ONBIDA for parents who wish to learn how to teach their own children to read. This course is run by a highly experienced and qualified multisensory structured language therapist.
The language therapist will instruct each parent tutor about how to teach their child via email correspondence. Parent tutors must have the ability to work well with the child and a high level of commitment to delivering the required number of lessons per week. Adults other than the parents (friends, other family members) may also apply to be the "Parent as Tutor" for the child.
Applications for ONBIDA's "Parent as Tutor" Distance Training Course will be accepted as spaces become available and first preference is now being given to parents from northern Ontario in order to further our reach across Ontario into areas with the least access to remedial services for dyslexia.
Please download the Distance Training/Parent as Tutor Guidelines for a description of expectations and requirements.
To apply for the program, please download and complete the Parent as Tutor/Distance Training Application form. Email the application form and the signed Distance Training/Parent as Tutor Guidelines to firstname.lastname@example.org.
