Posting for Programs and Administrative Manager

The International Dyslexia Association Ontario is growing charity that offers information and support to individuals with dyslexia and their families and provides training and professional development opportunities for teachers.

At the heart of our organization is a dedicated and passionate group of volunteers who have created and run our programs for years.  As we continue to grow and expand, we find ourselves in need of a permanent part-time manager who can provide consistent leadership and administrative support to the organization for the years to come.  The successful candidate will be someone who is dedicated to our mission of improving lives through literacy, is organized and skilled at administrative work and project management, and has experience working with and managing a small but mighty team of volunteers and staff.

Reporting to the President of IDA Ontario, Programs and Administrative Manager, you will have the opportunity to enrich the lives of individuals who struggle with dyslexia and other related reading differences.

Specific skills required include:

Strong computer skills: The successful candidate is someone who is comfortable with learning new technology independently.  We currently use many different types of software and technology including Zoom, Teams, One Note, WordPress, Gravity Forms, Beaver Building, Canva, Excel, Constant Contact, Moodle and Quick Books. While prior experience in all of these is not necessary, the successful candidate is someone who is confident that they can learn any new program or technology through self directed learning. Technological literacy is a necessary asset.

Leadership and management skills: Our organization currently has a dedicated group of volunteers and one full time staff member. Additionally, we occasionally have students who join the organization either as volunteers or paid interns.  The ideal candidate is someone with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who has experience managing and motivating a team, and keeping volunteers engaged. Following up on these persons’ commitments and responsibilities to ensure that all tasks are completed well to best represent IDA Ontario’s standards and mission will be required.

Project Management experience:  In addition to daily operations, we have several projects on the go at any given time. Most of these projects are led by a volunteer board member, however our manager would be expected to help as required by creating and managing project timelines, allocating staff time, supervising staff, and/or sourcing contractors to assist when needed.

Administrative skills:  Charities have many regulatory requirements. Additionally, we have obligations to our parent organization, the International Dyslexia Association.  Our operations manager will be expected to assign, track and when necessary complete a variety of different types of forms and filings to ensure that IDA Ontario remains a charity in good standing that follows best practices in compliance and charitable governance.

Communication Skills: This role requires an adept communicator that is clear, precise and has effective written, oral and presentation/public speaking skills. The ideal candidate exemplifies professionalism in communication and is effective at building rapport, collaborating in teams. As a confident and persuasive communicator, you have the ability to build rapport with individuals, organizations, and other prospective partners while asking for donations across various channels. This role requires extensive collaboration with IDA Board Members, IDA volunteers, community members, organizations and government stakeholders to assist in the development and execution of organizational strategic initiatives.


  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field (eg: Communications, Marketing, Business Administration)
  • 2 years related experience in an office environment or non-profit setting
  • 2 years demonstrated administrative and project management experience

Pay: $30-$40 per hour depending on experience

Hours: 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling

Term: The successful candidate is one who would be ideally committed to the job for at least five years, and owns current computer equipment which can operate the software described in Computer Skills.
